Why and How I Do What I Do

My Workaday Journey

I'm on a journey that reveals a printing press and a typewriter, along with clerical work in a business office and nursing duties at the Calgary General Hospital. These career changes that spanned industries have expanded my work horizons. And walking through different career doors has instilled a habit of life-long learning.

Education Benefits in Different Classrooms

My post-secondary education includes a Psychiatric Nursing diploma from Manitoba Hospital-Selkirk and a BA (double major in Communications Studies and Politcal Science) from the University of Calgary.

After passing the required exam at a federal government l'école de langue, I was designated bilingual for work at bilingual federal government positions.

My Print and Digital Portfolios

First, newspapers and magazines published my articles on health care, Western Canadian history, sports, business, and equestrian topics. Now, my websites that I maintain, wlhwords.com and wlhwords.org, have a place in my portfolio.

My Expanding Digital Skill Set

During my student days at the University of Calgary, I learned to write Pascal on a mainframe.

Online courses and text books authored by developers have created the building blocks for my ongoing study of C#, .NET framework, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Angular.

Cybersecurity awareness has also become part of my digital life.

Personal Details about Me

A native Western Canadian, I grew up in rural Manitoba near the village of Holland, my birthplace. I re-located in 2010 to Mississauga.

I read poetry, biographies and fiction. I'm a knitter since elementary school days and own a drawer full of sweaters. The sweaters come in handy when I'm ice skating. Having a camera at the ready for shots I don't want to miss is a habit I'll never change.

Psalm 27:1
The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
Micah 6:8
He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?.
